Reno, NV – Today, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto joined Republican women and health care workers from across Northern Nevada to highlight the stakes of her race for reproductive rights. Standing with dozens of Washoe women, they made it clear that women’s health care is not a partisan issue, and politicians like Adam Laxalt who are celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade will be held accountable at the ballot box. “Here in Nevada, we believe that women should be able to make their own health care decisions. It’s why we voted to codify Roe v. Wade more than 30 years ago,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I am so proud to stand up here with Nevada women – including women who are crossing party lines to support this campaign – because we are committed to fighting for our rights.” Nearly 70% of Nevadans support a woman’s right to choose, and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto has led efforts in the Senate to protect women and their access to health care. She has consistently called to safeguard women’s reproductive rights and vowed to fight a federal abortion ban. “Today, I’m here as a Republican to say we need to re-elect people like Senator Catherine Cortez Masto,” said Susan Fisher, a local leader and lifelong Republican. “Our Senator’s opponent, Adam Laxalt, doesn’t support a woman’s right to choose. He wants voters to overturn the very law that I worked so hard to fight to enact for women’s fundamental freedoms. I know Senator Cortez Masto will stand by me and my family as we continue the fight to keep politicians out of our personal decisions.” |
Adam Laxalt would be an automatic vote for a federal abortion ban. He called the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade a “historic victory” and said he would support overturning Nevada’s abortion protections with a strict state-level ban. As Nevada’s attorney general, Laxalt pushed to restrict access to birth control. “I’ve been a Republican my whole life. But the recent Supreme Court decision is not just a regression for women’s decisions over their bodies, but this is about how women see themselves and the control they have over their entire lives,” said Caryn Swobe, a pro-choice Republican from Reno. “That’s exactly why we need to re-elect pro-choice women like Senator Catherine Cortez Masto. There is so much at stake for our state and our country this fall.” “I would like to thank the Senator for representing Nevadans as well as she does, for being so eloquent and fierce in the fight for Nevadans every single day,” said ER nurse KC Hicks. “As a health care provider, I am obligated by my oath to provide the absolute best care that I can for my patients. But now I realize that the most important thing I can do is vote in every election. And to vote for pro-choice candidates, like Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.” |
